case studies

That of the Architect is an ancient and effortful job, its practice requires passion and dedication.

Since decades I challenge myself with topics like architectural design, bio-architecture, city planning, urban requalification, restoration and reduction of energy consumption, interior design.

Year after year I accept greater challenges, aiming to a continuous enrichment of my portfolio: ambitious projects, routine interventions, research and experiments, environment protection, commitment to protect and valorize existing heritage. Every day I face this interesting and engaging profession with an awareness grown upon every experience, in which even a little draft contributed to its thriving.

Public spaces

Douhet Square – Porto Potenza Picena I was asked to conclude the renovation of the square, initiated with flooring the central walk; at the time the square consisted of a fenced lawn in front of the school building, partially planted and surrounded by streets; facing the north side, across the street, was the Corpus Christi Church, completely ignored and excluded from the square. I came up with the idea of including the church in the area. I designed a space architecturally bounded which gave the

Residential construction

ARGOS Cooperative The assignment of managing the numerous projects of the ARGOS Cooperative, spread across many municipalities, was given to me in the nineties by the member of my studio. Since then, over 20 years of collaboration with ARGOS Cooperative, more than 120 accommodations have been realized over several residential compounds. It is, as it has been so far, a great experience from a professional and humane point of view; designing these buildings means to anticipate and shape the many different needs of families which build their (often first) house. My moral and professional commitment is to give them an accommodation based on essentiality and economy, inside great residential compound, which would still be individual and private.

City Planning

Detailed plan of Portonovo (AN) Together with Arch. Marcello Gidoni, city planning office at municipality of Ancona, I collaborated with Milanese architect Marco Porta, appointee of the detailed plan. It was the first fascinating experience of full tutelage of an area as limited in space as environmentally heterogeneous. At the time the topic found many acceptance and many more application difficulties. The active participation to the discussion of the plan, to be integrated into the new city plan of Ancona, at the time still in progress, was an educating, more than just interesting, experience. Nouvelle ville di Kinshasa In 2004 an entrepreneur asked me to attempt with his team an urban planning initiative in the Democratic Republic of Congo, aiming at the construction of a village for the needy accommodating 15,000 people. To this purpose I visited and inspected several times the DRC’s capital. I studied their customs try to recreate them into basic shapes, autonomous units and public spaces; I paid close attention to the relation with the surrounding nature and faced the issue of wild urbanization. I also faced serious and moving social issues never seen before. The project was put on hold but still I have hope that one day I will see its realization.

Private construction

The topic of requalification and restoration has always been the most engaging. Many have been the clients who appointed me to the study and realization of their residence and/or office giving me existing buildings often unused, ruined and anonymous. I offer solutions from simple makeup to total demolition, I consider the client’s needs as the structural and technological requirements, but the most important task is always to understand the old value and the hidden qualities of a place and to see its new vocation and future. An example? A building of the seventies in status of abandonment in front of the open sea: a restoration aiming at the valorization of its qualities, colors of blue and white, a big “eye” toward the horizon. An emotional reborn!

Construction for education

Construction for education is a topic which forces to face rules often very strict and hard to understand, limited budget, worried administrators, heterogeneous staff, teenagers and babies, anxious parents etc. I cannot be simply an architect, with empathy I must understand each one’s worries and expectations, avoiding to draw a shape according to the numbers required only. Among the projects (mostly consisting of restorations of old structures) the enlargement of the kindergarten located in Porto Potenza Picena was one of the most complex and innovative one. The structure made of brickwork and wood was difficult to be accepted but, since then, the new classrooms – where kids play barefoot – are the most requested ones!

COHO
